Employment history

09/2011 – present (full professor from August 2023)

​

Professor of European political economy, Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University

​

  • Conduct primary research and write articles on European public and social policy. I have published several articles in leading international journals in this area and two books. 

  • Responsible for developing and managing research funding bids. One bid successfully procured £215,000 from the European Commission.

  • Teach on a series of undergraduate and postgraduate modules related to European political economy.

  • Acted as Chair of the Board of Studies for Postgraduate Executive Programmes and was previously Director of the Employment Research Unit (ERU).

Other experience and professional activities

 

  • Have held visiting researcher positions at the Solidarność trade union in Poland, the FAOS Employment Relations Research Centre at the University of Copenhagen, L'Institut des Sciences du Travail at Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium and Fundación Juan March in Spain.

  • Founder and co-convenor of the UK Political Studies Association’s Social Policy and Politics specialist group

  • Speak, read and write Polish, Spanish and French (and have conducted research interviews and given academic presentations in these languages) and speak Welsh.
